Determining The Upper Limit (CAP) For Oil Palm Plantation in Indonesia
This study uses the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method to calculate the carrying capacity of each island in Indonesia for planting oil palm plantations. It was found that the upper threshold (cap) for oil palm in Indonesia is 18,148,602.96 ha or 18.15 million hectares. With a distribution of 10.70 million hectares on the island of Sumatra; 0.04 million hectares on the island of Java; 6.61 million hectares on the island of Kalimantan; 0.48 million hectares on the island of Sulawesi; 0.00 million hectares in Bali-Nusa Tenggara, 0.03 million hectares in the Maluku Islands; and 0.29 million hectares on the island of Papua. This study is needed to provide information to the government that the threshold for oil palm plantations has almost been met (currently oil palm plantations have reached 17.8 million hectares) and if forced expansion will create an environmental disaster because it exceeds the carrying capacity.
